I don’t even mind — because buying stuff online these days is just so stupidly easy.

It sounds like a small thing, but it really hit me when I started thinking back to my very first car. Nine years ago, I picked up a Toyota Wish and was just as eager to make it mine. But back then, shopping for car accessories meant clearing your afternoon — driving to a shop, wandering dusty aisles, negotiating with salespeople, and sometimes walking out empty-handed after all that effort. It was an event.
Buying from overseas platforms? Even more painful. Shipping to Singapore was slow, expensive, and half the time the seller just didn’t ship here at all. You’d get excited about something, add it to cart, and then — “This item does not deliver to your region.” Heartbreaking. 😩
Fast forward to 2026 and it’s a completely different world. Taobao, JD, PDD, Shopee, Lazada — most of them ship to Singapore for free now. Even Amazon has stepped up its game. Last week I placed orders across three different platforms without a second thought, while sitting on my couch in pyjamas. No parking, no crowds, no awkward haggling.
Nine years doesn’t sound like that long. But the leap from “drive there yourself and hope for the best” to “order with one finger tap from bed” genuinely feels like a generational shift in how we shop.
Is it all perfect? Not quite — you still get the occasional item that looks absolutely nothing like the photos 😅, and don’t get me started on the ones that arrive smelling aggressively of plastic. But the convenience, the variety, the prices, and yes — the free shipping — have made kitting out a new car genuinely enjoyable. That’s something I really didn’t expect to say.
Anyway. The car is great, the accessories are trickling in, and my wallet is on life support. 💸 No regrets. Would do it all again in a heartbeat. 🚗✨
