DIY – Maintenance Job for Macbook pro

The spare parts I ordered from Taobao—a display cable cover and CPU cooling thermal paste—for my 2018 MacBook Pro finally arrived this morning. With these materials in hand, I began the maintenance work on my MacBook Pro.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Removed the screws and opened the bottom cover.
  2. Disconnected all the cables on the logic board.
  3. Removed the logic board from the body and detached the CPU cooling fin.
  4. Cleaned off the old thermal paste and applied new thermal paste.
  5. Reassembled everything.
  6. Installed the new display cable cover.

The entire process took me about two hours. After reassembling everything, I powered on the MacBook Pro, and it booted up without any issues. Finally, my 2018 MacBook Pro is up and running again.

This was my first attempt at this kind of DIY maintenance job . Fortunately, everything worked perfectly. If it hadn’t, I would have needed to seek help from a third-party repair service. But for now, my DIY repair was a success.
